The United States and Canada are racing against time to save lives. The US Coast Guard led the search and rescue operation covering an area of about 20000 square kilometers, supported by the New York State Air Defense Force, and Canada sent its navy, air force and Coast Guard to participate. A French research ship also joined the action.
A Canadian Navy ship equipped with a mobile pressure regulating chamber and a professional medical team is rushing to the scene. If the personnel in the submersible are rescued, their decompression symptoms can be dealt with.
The oxygen in the submersible gradually decreases, and the US Coast Guard estimates that it can last for about 30 hours at present.
