Cai Wei, Consul General of China in Houston, issued an open letter to friends from all walks of life in the South American region

On the afternoon of the 24th, the Chinese Consulate General in Houston published an open letter from consul general Cai Wei to friends from all walks of life in the South American region on its official website. According to the open letter, the US side’s unilateral sudden request for China to close its Consulate General in Houston is a deliberate destruction of Sino US relations, the essence of which is mutual benefit and win-win.

According to the open letter, on July 21, the US side unilaterally provoked the incident and suddenly asked China to close its Consulate General in Houston. This move of the US side seriously violates international law and basic norms of international relations, seriously violates relevant provisions of Sino US Consular treaties, and deliberately destroys Sino US relations. China strongly condemns this and firmly opposes it.

The letter said that both China and the United States are great countries. The 41 year history of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States shows that if China and the United States cooperate, they will benefit both sides, and if they fight, they will both be hurt. The essence of Sino US relations is mutual benefit and win-win. Both sides should be committed to non conflict, non confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, and jointly promote Sino-U.S. relations with the keynote of coordination, cooperation and stability.

According to the letter, the Chinese Consulate General in Houston is the first Chinese Consulate General to be opened in the United States since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States. Over the past 40 years, the Consulate General has been committed to promoting mutual understanding and exchanges and cooperation in various fields between China and the United States. In his letter, Cai Wei said that in his work, he felt the warm, friendly, industrious, unafraid, pioneering and enterprising qualities of the people of the United States and southern China, which are closely related to the Chinese people. “In the future, no matter where I am, I will continue to support the friendly exchanges and cooperation between China and the people of the South American region.”
