BMW’s latest drop-top M4 is also its quickest, thanks to all-wheel drive.
BMW’s M4 Competition may not be our favorite-looking sports coupe, but it’s certainly among brooks shoes our favorite to drive, thanks to its excellent engine and much-improved chassis dynamics over the old model, and now, those of us who enjoy open-air motoring can get in on the fun, too.
By that, I mean BMW introduced the 2022 BMW M4 Competition Convertible, and now it’s got xDrive all-wheel drive. That last part is crucial because it means that this 2022 model is the first M4 Convertible to drive all four wheels, which is pretty cool — especially when you consider that this new version will sprint to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. That was supercar territory not that many years ago.
Things get even better once you get under the hood, too, because BMW’s engineers have poked and prodded the S58 inline-six-cylinder engine into producing a whopping 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. That’s a boost of 59 hp and 73 pound-feet over the previous-generation M4 Competition.
Like the non-M convertible 4 Series, the M4 uses a soft-top instead of the folding hardtop of previous generations. skechers shoesThis makes for significant weight savings — BMW claims up to 40% here — and it’s also spent a lot of time and effort to make sure that the new soft top is extremely well insulated from sound and temperature.
The 2022 BMW M4 Competition Convertible is set to enter production in September of 2021 and will retail for $87,295, including BMW’s $995 destination fee.
Following the full F-150 Lightning reveal last week, Ford unveiled the affordably priced base version of this potentially game-changing pickup on Monday, the new F-150 Lightning Pro. This all-electric truck is designed with commercial customers in mind, though it’s sure to appeal to retail buyers, too, because it promises to be an incredible value.
The Lightning Pro starts at $39,974, which gets you a SuperCrew body, standard full-time four-wheel drive and an estimated 230 miles of range. A larger battery is available as well, which should allow this truck to go 300 miles between charges. Examples fitted with the extended-range battery start at $49,974. Please note, neither of these listed prices include destination fees, which Ford has not shared yet. The delivery charge is $1,695 for combustion-powered F-150s, though it’s almost certainly going to be more for the Lightning since it’s practically guaranteed to be significantly heavier, probably similar to the reborn GMC Hummer EV truck, which tops out at more than 9,000 pounds.
